Jim has over 25+ years of experience as a daylily hybridizer. For 24 of those years he hybridized with his late partner, Rod Kroemer. The farm still has many seedlings hybridized by the couple, but in 2025 Jim will have seedlings that he has hybridized on his own and eventually, some will be introduced under the Wuersch name alone.
Aaron is a recent addition to 5 Acre Farms and has entered into a committed relationship with Jim Wuersch. They have already began hybridzing daylilies and has developed several seed pods for seedlings. Eventually there will be cultivars registered under the Slayton name.
Rod and Jim began hybridizing daylilies in 2005 but didn't register any daylilies until 2010. The first daylily the couple introduced was a CASA plant known as Ashlawn Farms. For 24 years the couple hybridized and registered over 80 cultivars with 32 cultivars being introductions and over 50 are ones the couple hybridized themselves. Rod

Rod passed away in 2024, digging daylilies, leaving Jim with many seedlings the two had worked on. The future could yield yet more introduction registered under the Kroemer-Wuersch name.

Ron Valente owned a nursery in North Berwick, Mainie called Valente Farms. Rod and Jim visited the farm for the first time in 1985 and cotinued to visist every summer, becoming friends with Ron Valente and becoming acquatined with his family. In 2003, after Ron passed away, Jim and Rod purchased Valente Farms in order to both find purpose for the unused 5 Acres they owned and to cotinue their friends legacy. The farm had become too much for Ron's widow, Cindy. Rod and Jim helped the only way they knew how. They had little idea of what they were doing and had purchased an entire farm to carry on a legacy that they didn't know they could live up to. At the time Valente had 29 registered cultivars, but there were several seedlings that Ron never got to introduce before his passing. of these, 24 were introduced by Jim and Rod, giving 53 total registered cultivars to Valente's legacy. Valente is a part of 5 Acre Farms, and always will be. All of his cultivars are part of our 5 Acre Farm stock and are regarded as 5 Acre Farm Daylilies with Valente being the hybridizer.
