Many daylily variteies vary in color retention based on environment. Conditions include light, temperature, and humidity. These factors can lead to the color fading as the day goes on. In ideal conditions this is prevented and color retention is afforded; however, the fading is a genetic trait in these cultivars.
A changer is a cultivar in which a significant area changes to a completely different color during the day. An Example is a red daylily changing to yellow without visible wilting or loss of substance. The term does not include flowers that merely become a lighter shade of the origional color. Environmental factors could affect this genetic trait.
Colorfast/Sunfast is a trait that exist in some daylilies that are hybrid. Genetically they differ from older, wild varieties (sometimes called "ditch lilies") that can spread aggressively with a runner trait and have a genetic revert trait to the color orange. Daylilies with a sunfast trait generally retain their color the entire day rather than fading or changing their color.
